The U.S. Department of Commerce reports, in Table B-1 of "The Employment Situation: February 2000", at$File/emp.bls?openElement
that in February of 1999 there were 1,725,500 persons employed in "Services 2: Computer and data processing services" and in February of 2000 there were 1,855,000 persons employed in this category. The difference is 149,500.

Interestingly, the number in "Manufacturing: Computer and office equipment" actually went down, from 360,400 to 357,000 in the same period, a contraction of over 2,000 jobs.
