Account menu navigation paths after homepage designs move profile settings
Finding Profile Settings After a Homepage Redesign
The account menu on a redesigned homepage does not always stay where expected. A search for the familiar profile icon or name in the top corner may reveal a different layout or a collapsed menu. Scanning the top edge of the page for a small person silhouette, a circle with an initial letter, or a gear symbol is the first step, since those are the common icons that have replaced older text-based account links.

When nothing looks familiar, clicking or pressing the three horizontal lines of the hamburger menu icon, frequently found in the top-left or top-right corner, is the next step. In many redesigns, the full account menu now hides behind this icon to keep the visual area uncluttered. Once that sidebar or dropdown opens, labels such as My Account, Profile, Settings, or Your Profile appear to locate the profile section again.
Checking the Footer or Bottom Navigation Bar
Some site redesigns move account links all the way out of the top header and instead embed them inside the page footer or inside a persistent bottom navigation bar designed for mobile viewing. At the very base of the homepage there is often a row of compact links such as Account, Profile, or Settings hidden in the small text. On mobile responsive sites, a bar with icons labelled Home, Search, and a person shape has turned into a now-familiar low-screen layout pattern.
A person icon appearing in that bottom bar, when selected, brings up a menu or a dedicated profile page. A gear icon or a link that reads Settings or Edit Profile should appear once that view opens, giving access to updating the account. When only generic icons with no text appear along the bottom, tapping each one briefly reveals which one displays the name, email, or profile picture.

Using the Search or Help Feature to Locate Settings
When visual scanning does not work, the quickest fallback is to use the site’s search function. A magnifying glass icon in the header or the main navigation area is the target. Typing “profile settings” or “account settings” into the search box and pressing Enter often returns a direct link to the settings page, bypassing the need to navigate the new menu structure.
Search results that do not return a direct settings link still make trying “edit profile” or “my account” worthwhile. Some redesigns use different internal labels for the same page. Opening a help article about account settings from the search results often includes a direct link to the settings page.
| What to Check | Where to Look | Next Action |
|---|---|---|
| Person icon or initial circle | Top-right corner of the homepage | Click the icon and look for Settings or Profile in the dropdown |
| Hamburger menu icon | Top-left or top-right edge of the page | Open the menu and scan for My Account or Profile |
| Bottom navigation bar | Bottom of the screen on mobile or responsive layouts | Tap the person icon, then find the gear or Settings link |
Checking the Dropdown Near Your Name or Avatar
After a homepage redesign, the account menu may still exist near the name or avatar but appear collapsed or hidden behind a small arrow or chevron. The display name, email address, or profile picture in the top header area is the place to look. Next to it, a small downward-pointing arrow, a chevron icon, or three dots often appears. Clicking or tapping that symbol usually opens a dropdown containing links to Profile, Settings, Account, or Sign Out.
A name appearing with no visible dropdown trigger makes clicking directly on the name or avatar the next step. Some redesigns make the entire name or image area clickable and open the account menu without showing a separate arrow. A dropdown that opens but does not include a Settings link makes looking for a link labeled Account or My Profile the next step, because the settings page is often nested one level deeper inside those sections.
